Support the Summer Youth Acting Camp Scholarship Fund

The Englert Theatre is proud to announce its second youth acting camp ACTING OUT!, welcoming incoming 4th and 6th graders for the week of August 5th – 9th. As the Englert has receives requests for discounted or free attendance we are seeking support from individuals and businesses. Your donation will help us to make this camp available to anyone needing support.

About ACTING OUT!

Join instructor Katy Hahn and Englert events director and University of Iowa Theatre Arts Department alumna Jessica Egli in a two-course program utilizing improvisation to explore character development. Students may choose to participate in either the morning or afternoon course, or both. The Englert is undergoing some renovations this summer, so our good friends at Riverside Theatre are graciously opening their doors to us this year! Monday, August 5 through Friday, August 9. Both courses prepare students for a performance for family and friends on Saturday, August 10 (time TBA).

Morning Course
8:30 a.m. to noon
A course in acting focused on movement and scene work. Performance consists of two to four person scenes retelling and modernizing Aesop’s Fables.

Lunch Hour
Noon to 1 p.m.
Students should bring their own lunch. Lunch will not be provided, but complimentary bottled water will be available.

Afternoon Course
1 to 4:30 p.m.
A course in acting focused on voice work, communication, and character development. Performance consists of each student’s original monologue written for an original character.

Students attending both courses will perform in two pieces – an improvised scene with a partner and an original character monologue. Each class is capped at 20 students.

Tuition Fees
Morning or Afternoon only: $225
Full day: $350
Payment is accepted by cash, check, or credit card at the Englert Box Office.
Hours of operation: Tues, Wed, Fri 12:30 – 5:30 p.m.
